A further 65 randomly selected women that screened negative were also administered the CIDI. Loss to postnatal follow-up was very significant, and returns rates were inconsistent across the three postnatal time points. Almost 25% of those who screened positive did not complete a CIDI. For screen-positive status, a total of 314 (24.4%) of those that returned questionnaires (N=1,289) screened positive at least once across the 6- to 8-month interval. Of these, 79 were lost to follow-up; thus, 235 (74.8%) completed a CIDI. In this group, 34.7% had been positive both on the EPDS and the “interval” question, 15.9% on the EPDS alone, and 49.4% on the “interval” question alone. For the CIDI diagnosis and estimated 6- to 8-month period CIDI prevalence, among those 235 women who screened positive and completed a CIDI, 67.2% met the criteria for a CIDI diagnosis, as did 16.9% of those who screened negative. The breakdown in CIDI diagnoses in the 235 women was 32.8% major depression (± anxiety disorder); 26.4% minor depression alone; and 8.1% with a primary anxiety disorder (approximately half with minor depression). Put another way, 20.4% of these women had an anxiety disorder (approximately two thirds with comorbid depression) and 37.7% of women with a major depressive episode (MDE) had a comorbid anxiety disorder. The estimated 6- to 8-month prevalence rate for a CIDI diagnosis of anxiety or depression (major or minor) was 29.2% (95% CI 26.7%–31.7%). The use of the “interval symptom” question alone was 1.7 times more likely to identify positive CIDI cases than the EPDS alone. Almost 40% of postnatal women with a diagnosis of MDE have a comorbid diagnosis of anxiety disorder. The estimated 6- to 8-month period prevalence for CIDI cases of anxiety and depression was 29.2%. Screening for anxiety and depression using the EPDS alone was associated with a lesser capacity to identify CIDI caseness than a simple “interval symptom” question (for the 2 months prior) which almost doubled the yield. This paper demonstrates that combining the EPDS with the “interval symptom” question improves detection of CIDI caseness.]]> Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:39:33 AEDT ]]> Excess comorbidity prevalence and cost associated with functional dyspepsia in an employed population https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:12779 300,000 employees. Employees with FD were compared to propensity-score-matched employees without FD (controls). Outcome measures included the prevalence, costs, and utilization of health services for comorbid conditions as defined by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) and the odds ratios of having FD from a multivariate model. Results: FD employees (N = 1,669) and a 50:1 matched control cohort (N = 83,450) were compared. Compared to matched controls, FD employees were more likely to have all major diagnostic categories. Moreover, 199/261 of the AHRQ’s specific categories were more common in the FD cohort. Annual medical costs for the FD cohort were greater than for controls in 155/261 (59%) specific categories and significantly greater (P ≤ 0.05) in 76 categories (29%). Similarly, services were greater for 179/261 (69%) specific categories and significantly greater (P ≤ 0.05) in 110 categories (42%). In a multivariate model, esophageal disorders, gastritis and duodenitis, and abdominal pain were the most associated with having FD (odds ratios 3.8, 3.7, and 3.6, respectively). Only hypertension complications and disorders of the teeth and jaw were significantly negatively associated with FD.Conclusion: There is unexplained excess comorbidity associated with FD which may be a major determining factor for excess healthcare services and costs.]]> Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:18:19 AEDT ]]> Spectrum of gastroparesis in children https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:12765 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:18:18 AEDT ]]> Prevalence and determinants of malnutrition among reproductive aged women of rural Bangladesh https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:10473 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:09:16 AEDT ]]> Hospital safety climate, psychosocial risk factors and needlestick injuries in Japan https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:11163 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:08:33 AEDT ]]> Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis will increase the risk of lung cancer https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:20409 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:00:51 AEDT ]]> Prevalence and risk of developing comorbid conditions in patients with chronic constipation https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:16887 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:00:49 AEDT ]]> The prevalence of bowel problems reported in a palliative care population https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:20493 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:59:06 AEDT ]]> Low prevalence of germline PALB2 mutations in Australian triple-negative breast cancer https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:19125 C) were found. In a systematic screen of brain-expressed genes from this region in 210 families with XLMR, we identified seven different mutations in JARID1C, including one frameshift mutation and two nonsense mutations that introduce premature stop codons, as well as four missense mutations that alter evolutionarily conserved amino acids. In two of these families, expression studies revealed the almost complete absence of the mutated JARID1C transcript, suggesting that the phenotype in these families results from functional loss of the JARID1C protein. JARID1C (Jumonji AT-rich interactive domain 1C), formerly known as "SMCX," is highly similar to the Y-chromosomal gene JARID1D/SMCY, which encodes the H-Y antigen. The JARID1C protein belongs to the highly conserved ARID protein family. It contains several DNA-binding motifs that link it to transcriptional regulation and chromatin remodeling, processes that are defective in various other forms of mental retardation. AF prevalence increased every year as women aged from 2.71% (95% CI 1.62%–3.80%) in 2000 among women aged 74–79 years to 24.83% (95% CI = 23.23%–26.44%) in 2015 among women aged 89–94 years. The incidence proportion remained constant (between 3% and 5%) throughout the study period. Sedentary lifestyle (OR = 1.24, 95% CI = 1.04–1.49), hypertension (OR = 1.24, 95% CI = 1.09–1.42), arthritis (OR = 1.24, 95% CI = 1.09–1.41), heart attack (OR = 1.62, 95% CI = 1.18–2.24), and angina (OR = 1.39, 95% CI = 1.14–1.70) were independently associated with AF. Mean CHA2DS2-VA score for women with AF was 3.43 (SD ± 1.23). Conclusions: The prevalence of AF reported in Australian women is among the highest compared to previous estimations from other countries and regions. According to the findings, about one in four women over the age of 90 years had AF. These women were also at high risk of stroke. This has significant public health implications especially with changing demographics of increase in the aging population. Further research is required on understanding how women with AF are treated in Australia and their health outcomes.]]> Mon 29 Jan 2024 17:43:06 AEDT ]]> A systematic review and meta-analysis of long-term sequelae of COVID-19 2-year after SARS-CoV-2 infection: A call to action for neurological, physical, and psychological sciences https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:51240 Mon 28 Aug 2023 12:22:39 AEST ]]> Systematic review with meta-analysis: the prevalence of small intestinal bacterial overgrowth in inflammatory bowel disease https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:43586 Mon 26 Sep 2022 12:31:48 AEST ]]> Using the Patient Health Questionnaire to estimate prevalence and gender differences of somatic symptoms and psychological co-morbidity in a secondary inpatient population with abdominal pain https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:44801 Mon 24 Oct 2022 09:24:27 AEDT ]]> Diabetes in South African older adults: prevalence and impact on quality of life and functional disability - as assessed using SAGE Wave 1 data https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:32392 Mon 23 Sep 2019 10:46:36 AEST ]]> Gastrointestinal Symptoms in Diabetes: Prevalence, Assessment, Pathogenesis, and Management https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:47552 Mon 23 Jan 2023 12:29:50 AEDT ]]> Epidemiology of body mass index in Ghana: evidence from WHO Study on global ageing and adult health, Wave 2 https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:53930 Mon 22 Jan 2024 16:50:49 AEDT ]]> Exploring Parkinson's disease prevalence in regional, rural and remote Australia: A systematic scoping review https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:53785 Mon 15 Jan 2024 10:30:26 AEDT ]]> A glimpse into the future: modelling global prevalence of hypertension https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:53038 Mon 13 Nov 2023 09:02:15 AEDT ]]> Longitudinal epidemiology of multiple sclerosis in Townsville, Queensland, Australia, 2012-2022 https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:54178 Mon 12 Feb 2024 13:11:52 AEDT ]]> Prevalence of hidden gastroparesis in the community: the gastroparesis "iceberg" https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:21659 Mon 11 Mar 2019 12:16:36 AEDT ]]> Prevalence and Correlates of Cervical Cancer Prevention Knowledge Among High School Students in Ghana https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:55063 65%) of students.
